Chronological List of Poe's Poems

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

This chronological index of Poe's poems assigns entries based on the earliest date that can be established. As this date is often the date of publication, the sequence given does not necessarily reflect the order in which the poems were actually written, and a chronology of this sort is inherently conjectural. Poe revised several of his poems many times, and most of these revisions are not reflected here. Where at least one text is known, an appropriate link is provided. In printing revised versions, Poe changed the titles of several poems, which poses a bit of a challenge when listing titles. In the present list, the earliest title is given, with subsequent titles noted parenthetically. For titles which were used for more than one poem, a quote from the first line is provided to allow one to be distinguished from another. Titles given in square brackets have generally been assigned to the poems that were written without a title, or at least were given a title by someone other than Poe himself.
