Lithographic label, Gold-Bug

Chromolithographic label featuring “The Gold-Bug,” clearly a reference to Poe’s famous short story.

This chromolithographic liquor or fruit label features a picture of Poe’s famous Gold Bug. Given Poe’s reputation for drinking, the possibility of a liquor association can only be called ironic. The name of the distributor is J. V. Payne, from Yakima, Washington. (This item is displayed here, with permission, from a private collection.)
