Text: Mary E. Phillips, “Illustration,” Edgar Allan Poe: The Man (1926), illustration, vol. I, p. 128

D. O. Hill, Engraving

T. L. Grundy, Artist

Miss Phillips does not identify her source, but the original engraving was printed in The Land of Burns, Glasgow: Blackie & Son, 1840, vol. I, facing p. 12. Her caption confuses the artist and the engraver. The painting from which it was engraved was done by David Octavius Hill, and the engraving was made by T. L. Grundy.
