From the crayon portrait drawn by Flavius J. Fisher from a daguerreotype owned by John R. Thompson, editor of the Southern Literary Messenger, taken probably in Spetember, 1849. Fisher gave the portrait in 1864 to E. V. Valentine, and it is reproduced through the courtesy of the Valentine Museum.
