(Born: May 25, 1819 - Died: September 19, 1888)

American journalist, author and poet. His parents were Sally Wallace Morrell and Spencer Houghton Cone. His father was a Baptist minister. Spencer W. Cone married Josephine Martinez on October 9, 1843. During the Civil War, he commanded the New-York Sixty-first Regiment, attaining the rank of colonel. A collection of Spencer Wallace Cone’s papers, including a number of letters and sermons by his father, may be found in the Zach S. Henderson Library in Statesboro, GA.
