Edgar A. Poe, however, has contributed “Notes on English Verse,” which is worth reading by those who desire to live in Castalia and more especially by those young ladies and gentlemen who send “poetry” to us for insertion. Seriously, English prosody has received too little attention — each writer chiefly makes his own, or is guided by ear; and if his matter be good, his manner is little criticised.
