SOUTHERN LITERARY MESSENGER for March.
As usual, this excellent magazine presents in the March number, a bill of rich and substantial fare. — Tuckerman furnishes a well written paper upon Wm. Godwin, and literary reformers generally. We have also an original and somewhat unique article upon Shakspeare; Reflections on the past year and the coming year; a continuation of the excellent tale, the “Seldens of Sherwood “A Bachelor's Reverie.” by Ik. Marvel; and an able notice and review of Edgar A. Poe, in which the erratic genius is justly and appreciatingly dealt with, while his editors, Lowell, Willis and Griswold are very unfairly treat ed. The poetry is good and varied, including a translation of the Æneid, book I. This Magazine commends itself to the lovers of pure literature, and reflects great credit upon its conductor. Richmond, Va., J. R. Thompson, Editor. Terms: $5 per an num.
