(Born: October 28, 1819 - Died: April 22, 1907)

American clergyman and poet. Although his 1845 volume of Poems was derisively reviewed by Poe, it was praised by William Wordsworth. He married Margaret Chamberlain Stockton on February 18, 1851, in Philadelphia, PA. During the Civil War, he served as a chaplain in the Confederate army, in Vicksburg, MS. He was rector of Christ Church in Cooperstown, NY. He died in New York City, and is buried in Lakewood Cemetery, in Cooperstown.
