This page is something of an experiment as presenting a chain of
genealogical
information on the internet is somewhat problematic. Where one begins
is
up to you. You might want to start with the writer Edgar
Allan Poe himself and work your way back up the chain. Instead, you
might
prefer to start with Edgar's great-great-grandfather, David
Poe, and work your way down. (The names of those in Edgar Allan Poe's
direct
ancestry are marked with double asterisks "**"). Although Edgar Allan
Poe
had no children, numerous people are under the misunderstanding that
they
are descendants. Many are actually descendants of Poe's cousins,
especially
Neilson Poe, but others are no relation at all. A line of Poes from
Virginia
seems to be unrelated, although they may share ancestry in the dim
mists
of Ireland's past.

or William Henry Arnold. Her mother was Elizabeth Smith Arnold, also an
actress.
