Her real name was Nancy Locke Heywood. On May 26, 1840,
she married Charles Bradford
Richmond (November 25, 1816 - August 25, 1873), a wealthy paper
manufacturer. She formally adopted the use of
"Annie" sometime after her husband's death (see Miller, Building
Poe Biography, p. 250).
She and Poe met around July of 1848 in Lowell, Massacheusetts, where
Poe was lecturing on "The Poets and Poetry of America."
