[Text: Edgar Allan Poe to Charles A. Bristed - January 17, 1847.]

Dear Sir,

Fordham--Jan. I 7--47.

Permit me to thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for the ten dollars which you were so considerate and generous as so send me through Mr. Colton. I shall now cease to regard my difficulties as misfortune, since they have shown me that I possessed such friends.

With the most sincere gratitude and esteem,

Yr Ob. St

Edgar A. Poe.

To Charles A Bristed Esqr
