KEY TO THE LISTINGS

Listings without beginning capital letters are from James A. Harrison. Listings beginning with [M] are from Thomas O. Mabbott; [P] from Burton R. Pollin; [B] from Alexander's Weekly Messenger; [G] The Columbia Spy and “Doings of Gotham”. The first numeral is the volume number, the numeral following the colon is the page number and the numeral following the slash is the line number.

R = Brief title of a book, poem, article, or name of a person discussed by Poe.

EXAMPLES

HYACINTH The Domain of Arnheim 6:196/7

This indicates that “Hyacinth” will be found in “The Domain of Arnheim” in volume 6 on page 196, line 7 of Harrison.

APE Oh, Tempora! Oh, Mores! [M]1:10/34

This indicates that “Ape” will be found in “Oh, Tempora! Oh, Mores!” in volume 1 on page 10, line 34 of Mabbott.

Notes:

Dr. Woolfson consitently renders “Oh, Tempora! Oh, Mores!.” as “Oh, Tempore, Oh, Mores!.” This error has been corrected in the current presentation.
